City of San Antonio seeks an experienced Animal Care Officer supervisor to oversee field teams and ensure adherence to animal care policies. The role includes training, field mentorship, and coordinating inter-agency operations.

The incumbent will conduct inspections, handle investigations, and manage documentation, citations, and court testimony while ensuring humane handling and transport of animals. Work is outdoors and indoors, with varied hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by TEA or regional accrediting agency).
• Two (2) years of animal control or animal handling experience.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
• Must possess the Texas Department of State Health Services Basic Animal Control Officer Certification or obtain within six months of employment; maintain 30 hours CE every three years.

Responsabilités

• Act as Field Training Officer for new or remediating Officers through documentation of readiness and remediation evaluations for assigned Animal Care Officer, including field mentorship and hands-on training.
• Execute assigned periods of instruction during the Animal Care Officer Academy for training and retraining of field personnel.
• Conduct process compliance inspections for equipment and personnel, ensuring operational readiness and professional appearance.
• Capable of acting as Animal Care Services Site Commander for inter-agency warrants, seizures and coordinated operations as required.
• Operate in an investigative capacity including warrants, maintaining SBI case files, investigating animal bite cases, and annual inspections for dangerous/aggressive animals.
• Safely and humanely captures and transports animals including those that are sick, injured, or potentially dangerous.
• Respond to calls for animal assistance from law enforcement and emergency situations.
• Investigates reports of animal bites and dangerous or vicious animals.
• Documents field notes and maintains accurate Daily Activity Log; submits log daily to supervisor.
• Writes reports and records data on logs/forms.
• Counsels/educates citizens regarding responsible animal ownership and ordinance/law requirements.
• Issues citations for violations; testifies in court.
• Enter animal information into software management system for each call.
• Clean and maintain assigned equipment and tools.
• Performs related duties as required.
