Job summary

The City of Madison is seeking a Property Code Inspector to enforce environmental and zoning regulations in diverse neighborhoods. The role involves field inspections, issuing notices, coordinating abatement actions, and maintaining records.

The incumbent reports to the Housing Inspection Supervisor and supports policy compliance and community safety. Candidates should be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, perform site visits across the city, and handle confidential information

Qualifications

• One year of experience communicating or explaining policies to the general public.
• Familiarity with inspection methods for code violations.
• Knowledge of computers and software used in inspections.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field work to inspect properties and enforce environmental and zoning rules.
• Issue notices and coordinate abatement actions for violations.
• Enter inspection results into the case management system (Accela).
• Provide customer service and respond to inquiries from property owners and contractors.
• Coordinate seasonal snow removal staff and train inspectors as needed.
