Job summary

City of Ponca City Development Services seeks a Property Inspector to perform field inspections and enforce building, zoning and property maintenance codes.

You will communicate inspection results to contractors, property owners and residents, prepare reports, issue permits and abatement notices, and maintain detailed records of actions taken. The role requires interpreting codes, applying enforcement guidelines, and collaborating with City staff in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read and interpret municipal codes pertaining to building construction and property maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license required; inspector licensure or ability to obtain licensing in Oklahoma.
• OK Code Enforcement Association certification or ability to obtain.
• Experience in code enforcement or construction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with building, zoning, nuisance and property maintenance codes.
• Interpret and apply codes; identify violations and determine corrective action.
• Communicate results to contractors, owners and residents in writing or verbally.
• Respond to complaints and inquiries from the public and City staff.
• Maintain records of inspections, violations and enforcement actions.
• Prepare reports, issue permits and abatement notices; document actions taken.
• Conduct inspections related to nuisances and verify ownership for enforcement actions.
• Take photographs and maintain evidence related to enforcement activities.
• Perform inspections in varying weather conditions and maintain attendance.
