This is a temporary position on a project assignment basis for a duration of 6-9 months.
As a Field Network Technician at STEP, you will be the dedicated onsite representative for a large-scale customer Wi-Fi refresh project spanning multiple U.S. locations. This 6–9 month assignment involves 100% travel and requires a motivated individual comfortable with structured cabling, wireless access point installation and representing STEP’s excellence in execution onsite.
You’ll work alongside STEP contracted resources and act as the point of continuity onsite, ensuring project success, issue resolution, and consistent communication with both internal teams and the customer.

- You work independently and collaboratively, taking initiative while remaining in sync with STEP’s Engineering and Project Management teams.
- Complete work accurately, safely, and on time—every time.
- Represent STEP with professionalism, accountability, and technical confidence.
- Solve problems with initiative and escalate when appropriate.
Core Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite lead technician, providing leadership and continuity at each location.
- Install and mount wireless access points (WAPs), network switches, and related equipment.
- Route, pull, and terminate Cat6 cabling cleanly and efficiently.
- Perform basic connectivity/signal testing, validate installations, and troubleshoot minor technical issues.
- Prepare and transport equipment, maintain inventory, and ready sites for deployment.
- Escalate risks or issues proactively and communicate effectively with STEP and customer teams.
- Maintain detailed daily documentation and photos of completed work.
- Adhere to all STEP and OSHA safety standards.
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Ideal Candidate’s Qualifications And Experience
- Hands-on experience installing wireless access points and pulling/terminating network cabling.
- Ability to use basic hand tools (drills, snips, testers, punchdown tools, etc.).
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and at ceiling height.
- Able to read floor/site plans and follow structured cabling best practices.
- Physically capable: lift 50 lbs, work on feet for extended periods, bend, stoop, and climb.
- Professional, punctual, accountable, dependable, and safety conscious.
- Basic networking knowledge (e.g., ping, connectivity testing).
- Experience in school, retail, warehouse, or multi-floor environments.
- Familiarity with labeling tools and clean cable management practices.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and willing to travel 100% as required by the project.
- Valid driver’s license required.
