Job summary

The City of Alexandria invites applications for the Utility Service Worker, Customer Field Services to perform meter reading, servicing, and maintenance tasks in the field. The role covers activating and terminating services, on-site inspections, and safeguarding assets while supporting emergency operations.

40-hour weeks with overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license; LA license must be obtained if not already held.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; plus 1 year in meter reading, repair, or related work.
• Valid driver’s license; Louisiana license required at appointment and throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform electric and water meter servicing, respond to service calls and advise customers on hazards and safety.
• Inspect, calibrate, and maintain meters to ensure proper functioning and detect leaks or safety issues.
• Read meters on assigned routes; log data with handheld device and verify readings for accuracy.
• Monitor meters for tampering and theft of services.
• Process service tickets, work orders, and logs; file reports with relevant personnel.
• Operate vehicle, handheld meter-reading device, and two-way radio during duties.
