Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and perform timely repairs to keep operations running.
• Operate service truck equipped with tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain accurate work orders and records.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machining as needed for equipment repair.
• Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and DOT requirements.
• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Travel to jobsites as needed and work on road construction sites with exposure to weather and noise.

Position Description

Job Overview

This position is full-time seasonal. The field mechanic will work from approximately April-November depending on jobs, with the option to work in the shop during the early spring or fall/winter seasons. A normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8-14 hours per day with weekend work, overtime is likely. Work is located on the road construction jobs and travel to jobsites will be required. This is a union, Operator Local 49 position and a CDL Class A license is required.

Primary Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair all types of trucks and heavy equipment, including skid steers, front-end loaders, dozers, haul trucks, excavators, cranes, etc.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and complete timely repairs to keep paving operations running smoothly.
• Operate service truck equipped with tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain accurate work orders.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machining as needed for equipment repair.
• Ensure all repairs meet company safety standards and DOT requirements.
• Conduct routine and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• There is constant exposure to various weather conditions typical in the states where the work is performed, including noise, dust, and other materials.
• The work environment is in areas where heavy equipment, power tools and traffic are present.
• There is exposure to heights up to 50 feet and depths of up to 80 feet in this construction work environment.
• Demonstrate or be corrected to 20/20 vision.

• The employee must be able to lift (including above shoulder or head), move, and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to input information, handle, carry (with and without assistance), feel objects, tools (of varying size and weight), or controls.
• Frequently reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear, and taste or smell.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequent exposure to high noise levels.
