Job summary

MP Systems, a leading line and infrastructure construction company and part of PPC Partners, Inc., seeks skilled maintenance technicians to service our fleet at Central MN job sites, including Duluth, Mora, and Virginia.

You will perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and large construction equipment, diagnosing brake systems, engines, electrical, steering, transmissions, tires, and performing DOT inspections.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL driver's license and medical card.
  • Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Truck/Heavy Equipment repair or five years of experience.
  • Minnesota DOT inspector or ability to obtain in 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-plan and identify methods to eliminate hazards daily by task.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Perform DOT inspections and dielectric testing on equipment; complete repairs noted on inspections.
  • Install and troubleshoot telematics in fleet equipment.
  • Performs tune ups, brake jobs, and preventative maintenance; weld and fabricate as needed.
  • Assist Fleet Manager with maintaining service and repair records and procuring parts.

Job Description Summary

This position will perform maintenance and repairs at various job sites and remote locations.

Job sites will be in the Central MN area including the Duluth, Mora, and Virginia areas.

Responsible for the full range of maintenance and repair needed for heavy-duty trucks, large construction equipment and tractor trailers. Keep all vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including gas, diesel and electrical engines. Inspect company fleet to determine necessary corrective action; examine, diagnose and repair brake systems, engines, electrical components, steering systems, transmissions and tires. Conduct business in accordance with MP Systems, Inc. mission and vision statements.

Salary Range - $33.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others, and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero injuries.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, PTOs, brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and interfaces, cranes, digger derricks, aerial devices, systems and components. Perform DOT inspections, perform monthly, annual inspections and dielectric testing on equipment. Complete repairs noted on all inspections, facilitate all the necessary documentation and paperwork for all repairs and inspections. Install and troubleshoot telematics in fleet equipment.
  • Performs tune ups, brake jobs, functional adjustments to aerial equipment, digger derricks, cranes and other fleet equipment, preventative maintenance, metal fabrication and welding, respond to road service calls and routinely scheduled visits to job sites to perform repairs, preventative maintenance and inspections.
  • Assist Fleet Manager with maintaining appropriate service and repair records. Assist Fleet Manager with researching and purchasing equipment parts and supplies.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Valid CDL driver's license and medical card
  • High school education or GED is required
  • Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Truck/Heavy Equipment repair or five years of experience performing repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Minnesota DOT inspector or able to obtain in 1 year
  • Must supply a basic set of tools for work in the shop
  • Qualified to perform annual inspections
Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity – both are non-negotiable
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete service & repair tasks from basic to complex, independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of body and frame construction.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
  • Skill in the use of gas and electric welding equipment, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
  • Skill & knowledge base to effectively service and repair machinery and implement new service and repair techniques.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions.
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.
  • Ability to communicate with others about repair work needed.
  • Ability to determine work priorities
  • Ability to order and procure parts & supplies
  • Acquire an effective knowledge of service procedures for all fleet equipment
