Job summary

M.J. Electric, LLC is seeking a Field Mechanic who will travel throughout Iowa to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy equipment used in electrical construction projects.

You will diagnose engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and ensure equipment readiness on multiple sites across the Midwest. The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of experience with heavy equipment diagnosis and repair, MIG/TIG welding skills, and valid CDL A (and B) with DOT knowledge.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment or trucks.
• Able to read electrical and hydraulic schematics and manuals.
• Strong MIG/TIG welding and fabrication skills.
• Valid CDL (Class A) required; Class B CDL also listed.
• Knowledge of DOT Regulations.
• Willingness to travel to project sites regionally.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Replace and repair damaged components on heavy equipment.
• Perform engine flushing, lubrication, and maintenance checks.
• Troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, trailers, and aerial lifts.
• Coordinate annual DOT and Crane inspections.
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance.
• Extensive travel to job sites across the Midwest.

About this Role - Field Mechanic

We are looking for a talented Field Mechanic who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all types of wire pulling and stringing equipment, heavy equipment, trailers, and vehicles used for electrical construction projects throughout the Midwest.

What You'll Get

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, generators, suspensions, brakes, transmissions, fuel injection systems, ignition systems and air tools
• Replace and repair damaged components
• Perform engine flushing/cleaning, parts lubrication, oil changes and maintenance checks and all equipment
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repairing all types of heavy equipment, trailers, aerial lift platforms, bulldozer, bucket trucks
• Annual DOT and Crane Inspections
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance
• Extensive travel required

What You'll Bring

• 2-4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (wheeled and tracked) or trucks
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and diagrams
• Strong welding (MIG /TIG) and fabrication skills
• Must possess a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Basic understanding of DOT Regulations
• Good organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout a geographical area
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic and testing equipment
• Customer service skills
• High School graduate
• Must possess a valid class A Commercial Drive License (CDL)
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout the region
