Job summary

M. J. Electric, LLC is seeking a Field Mechanic to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heavy equipment used in electrical construction projects across the Midwest. The role emphasizes diesel and hydraulic systems, OEM documentation, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualified candidates will have 2–4 years of field experience, the ability to read schematics, strong welding skills, and both Class A and Class B CDLs. This position requires extensive travel and a valid CDL.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment or trucks.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, manuals and diagrams.
• Valid Class A and Class B CDL are required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel/gas engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Replace and repair damaged components and perform routine maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and service heavy equipment, trailers, aerial lifts, bulldozers, bucket trucks.
• Complete periodic DOT and crane inspections as required.
• Travel extensively to project sites across the Midwest.

About this Role – Field Mechanic

We are looking for a talented Field Mechanic who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all types of wire pulling and stringing equipment, heavy equipment, trailers, and vehicles used for electrical construction projects throughout the Midwest.

What You'll Get

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, generators, suspensions, brakes, transmissions, fuel injection systems, ignition systems and air tools
• Replace and repair damaged components
• Perform engine flushing/cleaning, parts lubrication, oil changes and maintenance checks and all equipment
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repairing all types of heavy equipment, trailers,aerial lift platforms, bulldozer, bucket trucks
• Annual DOT and Crane Inspections
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance
• Extensive travel required

What You'll Bring

• 2-4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (wheeled and tracked) or trucks
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and diagrams
• Strong welding (MIG /TIG) and fabrication skills
• Must possess a valid class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Basic understanding of DOT Regulations
• Good organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout a geographical area
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic and testing equipment
• Customer service skills
• High School graduate
• Must possess a valid class A Commercial Drive License (CDL)
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout the region
