Job summary

M. J. Electric, LLC is seeking a Field Mechanic who will troubleshoot, maintain and repair diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic and electrical systems for heavy equipment across the Midwest.

You will read schematics, perform welding and maintenance, and travel to multiple job sites in Iowa and surrounding states. Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of experience with heavy equipment or trucks, a valid CDL, strong diagnostic skills and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment or trucks.
• Able to read electrical/hydraulic schematics and manuals.
• Strong MIG/TIG welding and fabrication skills.
• Valid Class A and/or Class B CDL required.
• Willingness to travel across Iowa region.
• Good organizational and recordkeeping skills.
• High school diploma.
• DOT regulations knowledge.
• Customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel and gasoline engines and hydraulic systems.
• Repair electrical and air conditioning systems.
• Perform engine maintenance and preventive service.
• Repair heavy equipment, trailers and aerial lift platforms.
• Complete annual DOT and crane inspections.
• Travel extensively to projects across the Midwest.
• Provide mechanical oversight to equipment on multiple sites.

About this Role - Field Mechanic

We are looking for a talented Field Mechanic who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all types of wire pulling and stringing equipment, heavy equipment, trailers, and vehicles used for electrical construction projects throughout the Midwest.

What You'll Get

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, generators, suspensions, brakes, transmissions, fuel injection systems, ignition systems and air tools
• Replace and repair damaged components
• Perform engine flushing/cleaning, parts lubrication, oil changes and maintenance checks and all equipment
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repairing all types of heavy equipment, trailers, aerial lift platforms, bulldozer, bucket trucks
• Annual DOT and Crane Inspections
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance
• Extensive travel required

What You'll Bring

• 2-4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (wheeled and tracked) or trucks
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and diagrams
• Strong welding (MIG /TIG) and fabrication skills
• Must possess a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Basic understanding of DOT Regulations
• Good organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout a geographical area
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic and testing equipment
• Customer service skills
• High School graduate
• Must possess a valid class A Commercial Drive License (CDL)
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout the region
