Job summary

Bayer is seeking a Maintenance Specialist in Berkeley, CA, to coordinate field-based maintenance and vendor activities in a regulated pharmaceutical setting. You’ll optimize equipment availability, develop preventive maintenance strategies, and drive improvements using data analysis.

Work with maintenance, production and engineering teams to ensure safety, GMP compliance and high-quality workmanship. Relevant CMMS experience and strong communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent certification and 6+ years’ total work experience, including 3+ years in maintenance or manufacturing operations within a regulated environment.
• Experience coordinating or supervising contractor/vendor work in the field.
• Hands-on familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order creation, updates and closure.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and job plans.
• Strong communication and coordination skills to bridge planning, engineering and operations.

Responsibilities

• Review work orders, plans, permits and site readiness before execution.
• Coordinate downtime, clearances, and staging of parts and materials.
• Lead pre-job safety briefings and verify permits, hazards and crew understanding.
• Provide field oversight to ensure plans, procedures and GMP standards are followed.
• Act as liaison among craft, operations and engineering, tracking progress and escalating issues.
• Verify completion to specification, close out permits and document maintenance actions.
• Support continuous improvement projects and small maintenance improvements.
• Assist with deviations, DR and CAPA activities and ensure corrective actions are completed.
