Job summary

Benchmark, a division of National Underground Group, is seeking a Locate Technician in Birmingham, AL. You will use mechanical/technical equipment to locate utilities and coordinate with managers, crews and homeowners to resolve locate issues.

Read maps, interpret tickets, and plan efficient routes in urban and rural areas. Requirements include willingness to learn, ability to drive locally, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors on-call.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn – training is required to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads and work outdoors.
• Ability to perform locate duties on-call and after hours.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to access restricted areas (e.g., federal installations).
• Strong work ethic and reliability.
• Proficient use of computer to complete documentation and email.
• Ability to lift, push and pull at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to walk various terrains in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities (telephone, power, cable, gas, water, sewer).
• Communicate daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners.
• Interpret job orders and maps to ensure accurate location.
• Read blueprints and determine efficient routes for each locate.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
• Ensure customer satisfaction and safety compliance.
