Job summary

Benchmark, a division of National Underground Group, is seeking a Locate Technician for the Birmingham, AL area. The role involves using mechanical and technical equipment to locate underground utilities, coordinating with excavation crews, and ensuring accurate utility placement on maps and blueprints.

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes benefits. Training for locator certification is provided, and candidates must be able to work outdoors, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel within

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn – Instructor led training is required to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and to operate independently.
• Ability to perform locate duties before or after normal business hours when on call.
• Strong work ethic and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to accurately locate underground facilities.
• Communicate daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners about locate issues.
• Read maps/blueprints to ensure accurate location of utilities.
• Determine efficient route to locate sites in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids as needed.
