Job summary

Benchmark is seeking a Locate Technician in Crozet, VA to operate mechanical equipment, locate underground facilities, and coordinate with managers, crews, and homeowners. The role requires reading maps, interpreting tickets, and planning efficient routes in rural and urban areas, with routine lifting and on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn; instructor-led training is required to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads and work outdoors.
• Ability to perform locate duties on call outside normal hours.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Access to restricted/controlled areas (federal installations).
• Ability to lift, push and pull at least 50 pounds.
• Walk up to 5 miles in various terrains and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities (telephone, power, gas, water, fiber, etc.).
• Communicate daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners about locate issues.
• Interpret job order tickets and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Read maps and blueprints to locate utilities accurately.
• Determine efficient routes for locates in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
