Job summary

State of Montana is seeking a District Investigator to enforce federal, state, and tribal livestock laws within the district. The role involves inspection, investigation, arrests, and high-stakes enforcement in a demanding field environment with travel and occasional remote duties.

The position requires knowledge of brands and animal health, plus the ability to learn department software, perform under pressure, and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of livestock handling experience, including rope, clip cattle and read brands.
• Ability to become P.O.S.T. Certified within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Enforce state, federal and tribal livestock laws within the district.
• Inspect, surveil, investigate and enforce; conduct arrests and issue citations.
• Assist other law enforcement agencies as needed and support the Dillon Market operations.
• Operate a state vehicle and travel as required; adapt to field conditions.
