Job summary

State of Montana’s Department of Livestock seeks a District Investigator for the Dillon region to enforce federal, state, and tribal livestock laws. The role involves inspections, investigations, arrests, seizures, and serving warrants as a sworn peace officer.

Travel is required with overnight trips; residence within the district is preferred. POST certification must be completed within 12 months, and a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of livestock handling experience.
• Ability to become P.O.S.T. Certified within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Enforce state, federal, and tribal livestock laws within the district.
• Perform inspections, investigations, arrests, citations, and vehicle/livestock seizures.
• Work in field environments, including handling livestock and riding horses when needed.
• Support the Dillon Market and assist other agencies as required.
