Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Special Inspector to perform structural inspections and construction materials testing for diverse projects in the Charlotte/Fort Mill area. You will field inspect rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, foundations and conduct soil, concrete, and asphalt testing, delivering clear reports and recommendations.

Travel to project sites with a company vehicle, collaborate with clients and internal teams, and maintain strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with construction materials testing (soil, concrete, asphalt).
• Ability to perform structural inspections for rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, foundations.
• ICC Reinforced Concrete and/or ICC Structural Masonry certification required.
• ICC technician experience in construction materials testing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare clear field and lab reports.
• Effective verbal and written communication with clients and staff.
• Ability to evaluate site and subgrade conditions and provide sound recommendations.
• Capability to perform field and laboratory tests, including non-destructive testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural inspections for reinforcing steel (rebar), masonry, post-tensioning systems, and foundations to verify compliance with project plans and codes.
• Conduct field materials testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt using appropriate testing procedures and equipment.
• Prepare detailed field reports documenting test results, inspections, observations, and nonconforming conditions.
• Perform laboratory tests on soil and concrete samples and report results.
• Evaluate site and subgrade conditions and provide recommendations based on data.
• Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal staff about tests and corrective actions.
• Follow safety rules and procedures while performing field and lab work.
• Read and interpret plans, specs, safety rules, and manuals to support inspections and testing.
• Travel to project sites using company vehicle and represent the company professionally.
• Maintain organized records of inspections and reports.
