Job summary

Actalent seeks a Special Inspector in Charlotte, NC to perform structural inspections and materials testing across diverse projects. The role combines field inspections, laboratory testing, and detailed reporting, with daily travel in a company vehicle and a strong emphasis on safety and documentation.

The position requires ICC RCC or Structural Masonry certifications and extensive experience in inspection or construction materials testing, plus proficiency in plan interpretation and report

Qualifications

• Experience with construction materials testing (CMT), including soil, concrete, asphalt, and related materials.
• Ability to perform structural inspections for rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, and foundations.
• ICC Reinforced Concrete and/or ICC Structural Masonry certification (at least one is required).
• ICC technician experience in construction materials testing (CMT).
• 24 years of relevant experience in inspection and/or construction materials testing preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare clear, complete, and accurate field and laboratory reports.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and internal staff.
• Ability to evaluate site and subgrade conditions and provide sound recommendations.
• Capability to perform both field and laboratory testing, including non-destructive testing where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural inspections for rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, and foundations to verify compliance with plans, specs, and codes.
• Conduct field materials testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt using appropriate procedures and equipment.
• Prepare detailed field reports documenting test results, inspections, observations, and nonconformities.
• Perform laboratory tests on soil and concrete samples and report results timely.
• Evaluate site and subgrade conditions and provide recommendations based on data.
• Communicate test results and recommendations with clients, contractors, and internal staff.
• Follow safety rules and procedures during field and lab work.
• Learn to read plans and manuals to support accurate inspections and testing.
• Use company vehicle for travel to project sites and represent the company professionally.
• Maintain organized records of inspections, tests, and reports for QA.
