Job summary

Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, DPC in Astoria, NY seeks an Instrument Person (Land Surveying) for a full-time union role to support projects across the New York City Metropolitan area. Sponsorship is available for qualified candidates to gain entry into the applicable union.

The role focuses on setting up and operating survey instruments, collecting field data, maintaining records, and assisting the Crew Chief on site.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of land surveying field experience.
• Experience operating total stations, levels, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
• Ability to accurately collect and maintain field data, survey notes, and related project information.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to perform basic mathematical and field calculations.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a survey crew and follow direction from the Crew Chief.
• Availability to work overtime as project needs require.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; AAS in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field is a plus.
• 40 Hour SST card and applicable scaffolding training certifications, or the ability to obtain them;
• Valid, acceptable driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and maintain field survey equipment (total stations, levels, GPS, data collectors).
• Assist with collection and documentation of accurate field survey data and notes.
• Maintain complete and organized field records and survey notes.
• Assist Crew Chief with day-to-day field operations.
• Prepare survey sites for field work and clear obstacles as needed.
• Upload/download data collection information and photographs.
• Maintain field equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
• Work outdoors at project sites across the NYC metro area; overtime may be required.
