Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on‑site Transportation Construction Inspector to work across multiple project locations in the United States. This role involves performing inspections, coordinating with the contractor and engineers, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.

The position requires the ability to read construction plans, knowledge of materials and methods used in highway work, and the ability to travel up to 40%.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or national entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt and concrete.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of the day‑to‑day work performed by the contractor; review and recommend acceptance or rejection of daily reports; inspect QC procedures and material testing; verify conformance with the Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract; measure quantities of materials placed; may perform sampling and in‑place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
