Job summary

CDM Smith, a leading U.S. engineering firm, is seeking a field inspector to support highway construction projects at multiple locations.

The role involves inspecting traffic control, environmental controls, and construction methods under supervision, with responsibilities to review contractor reports and QA/QC procedures. Candidates should have a HS diploma, 2 years of related experience, and the ability to read plans.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET in earthwork, asphalt and concrete may be required by client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency depends on duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Review daily contractor reports and inspect contractor quality control procedures and material testing for conformance with the Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to contract; measure quantities of materials; may perform sampling or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
