Job summary

The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) seeks Inspectors to enforce consumer protection and worker safety laws across multiple NYC agencies. The role requires conducting field inspections, testifying at hearings, and preparing detailed reports on investigations.

Minimum qualifications include a four-year high school diploma and/or a bachelor’s degree, with options for a combination of education and experience. Residency and driving requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and four years of full-time experience in investigations or inspections for a consumer or worker protection agency.
• Or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
• Or a satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above, with college credits substituting for experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field enforcement, undercover inspections, and participate in multi-agency enforcement actions.
• Enforce weights and measures laws through testing, sealing, or confiscating weighing devices and related goods.
• Inspect and investigate trade practices to detect consumer deception and regulated trades in NYC.
• Prepare reports on complaints, violations, and inspections using tablets, computers, or paper documents.
• Maintain a professional demeanor with excellent customer service and perform related duties.
