Job summary

State employees at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) in North Platte seek dedicated team players for Highway Construction Technician I/II roles. You will be trained to inspect highway construction projects, perform surveying and ROW staking, and assist with materials testing.

CDL training is provided, with realistic wage progression and CDL-related pay differentials. Candidates will work outdoors, hours vary with contractor schedules, and a structured pathway to Technician II

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 and valid driver’s license (Technician I).
• For Technician II, experience in surveying, materials testing, or inspections, or coursework in surveying/materials testing/inspections with valid license.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway construction inspection duties on projects.
• Conduct preliminary and construction surveying and ROW staking.
• Sample and test construction materials; document daily contractor progress.
• Learn to read and interpret plans and bridge plans; perform math calculations.
• Train to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Operate snow removal equipment as needed; outdoor work across shifts and weekends.
