Job summary

The City of Brenham, TX, seeks a Public Utility & GIS Technician to collect GPS data in the field and input it into the city’s GIS, and assist with ArcGIS data entry and verification. The role also involves surveying for city projects using AutoCAD and GIS tools, and coordinating with contractors and city departments to support utility operations.

Ideal candidates have high school graduation and some field experience; driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 1+ year field experience, or equivalent combination.
• GIS field experience preferred for technician level.

Responsibilities

• Collect GPS field data with Trimble or similar unit for water, wastewater, gas, and electric assets; export data for design and mapping.
• Enter, update, and verify data in GIS mapping system using ArcGIS; retrieve data from utility tech databases.
• Create technical drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD or GIS software.
• Perform surveying: staking lot lines, easements, ROW, and data gathering for site profiles.
• Inspect ROW permits; update and maintain digital and paper maps for city utilities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and ensure compliance with regulatory and city requirements; maintain safety standards.
• Assist locating utility lines using electronic equipment and data; provide excellent customer service.
