Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks a Construction Field Technician for its Geotechnical team in the Lehigh Valley, Allentown, PA. This entry-level, field-based role offers hands-on learning while performing field tests on soil, concrete, asphalt, and more, with independent work and support from project teams.

No prior industry experience is required; strong communication and willingness to learn technical skills are valued. Willingness to travel and occasional overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Perform field testing procedures accurately and in accordance with standards.
• Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.
• Ability to read civil/site drawings and project plans.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and good computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing procedures accurately and in accordance with standards and specifications.
• Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.
• Transport, handle, and maintain equipment and supplies responsibly and effectively.
• Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients both verbally and in writing.
• Work independently with supervision.
• Comply with internal and client Health & Safety and testing policies, if applicable.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings, and overtime based on project needs; overnight travel may occasionally be required with this position.
• Test concrete for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and fabricate concrete cylinders.
• Test engineered fill using field density methods or be familiar with Construction Material Testing.
• Test bearing materials and observe/document ground improvement programs for compliance in accordance with the project-specific geotechnical report.
• Perform soil moisture-density tests and oversized aggregate corrections.
• Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details, or be familiar with Geotechnical Engineering.
