Job summary

Generator Supercenter, Inc. in Wheeling, IL, is hiring a dependable Generator Mechanic / Service Technician to diagnose, maintain, and repair whole-home standby generators.

This field-based role requires mechanical and electrical repair experience with small engines, standby generators, or ATS systems. You will travel to residential job sites using a company-provided vehicle, read wiring diagrams, and communicate with customers about services and recommended improvements.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in generator service, small engine repair, or related mechanical/electrical work.
• Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
• Comfortable working independently in the field with minimal supervision.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Travel to residential job sites using a company‑provided service vehicle.
• Perform diagnostics, routine maintenance, and repairs on whole‑home standby generators.
• Troubleshoot and service mechanical and electrical components, including ATS systems.
• Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Clearly communicate with customers regarding services performed and any recommendations.
• Accurately document all work in our service management software.
• Follow safety protocols and industry best practices when working around electricity.
• Support emergency service calls during weather‑related outages or storms, as needed.
