Job summary

Cogent Communications is a global Tier 1 ISP offering high-speed Internet and Ethernet transport services. The role focuses on field activity, installation of network elements, and upkeep of Cogent's fiber and data center infrastructure.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in telecom networks, DWDM/IP field experience, and strong troubleshooting abilities. Travel up to 30% and contractor/vendor management are expected aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience on telecommunication networks.
• 1+ years of field experience in DWDM and/or IP networks.
• Experience with specialized telecom test equipment and interpreting results.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Install Network Elements within Cogent locations (Data centers, POPs, Hubs).
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers, carrier neutral datacenters, and multitenant office buildings; document and communicate changes.
• Maintain the Cogent fiber network (locates, maintenance, splicing, emergency restoration, transmission equipment maintenance).
• Maintain Cogent Data Centers (facility maintenance, compliance, equipment maintenance).
• Manage contractors and vendors.
• Work with Network Planning and Customer Service Delivery to provide field perspective to deployments.
• Maintain proficiency within telecommunications infrastructure, fiber, CWDM and DWDM technologies.
• Work with AC and DC power systems.
