Job summary

Cogent Communications in the United States is seeking a Network Field Engineer to manage all field activity, install network elements in data centers and POPs, and turn up new customer circuits. Responsibilities include fiber maintenance and coordinating with contractors.

Applicants should have 5+ years in telecom networks and hands-on DWDM/IP experience, plus proficiency with test equipment such as OTDRs and power meters. A self-starting, collaborative attitude is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in telecom networks.
• 1+ year field DWDM/IP networks.
• Experience with telecom test equipment (OPM, OTDR, OSA, testers).
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• High-energy individual with teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Install Network Elements within Cogent Data Centers, POPs, Hubs.
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers and multitenant buildings.
• Maintain Cogent fiber network (locates, maintenance, splicing, restoration).
• Maintain Cogent Data Centers (facility, equipment maintenance).
• Manage contractors and vendors; work with planning and delivery teams.
