Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking a Network Field Engineer to manage field activity across Cogent’s global fiber network. You will install network elements in data centers, test and turn up new customer circuits, and maintain fiber and data center infrastructure.

The role requires 5+ years in telecom networks, DWDM/IP experience, and proficiency with OPM/OTDR/OSA and Ethernet/IP testers. Travel and vendor management skills are important for success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience on telecommunication networks.
• 1+ years of field experience in DWDM and/or IP networks
• Experience in the use of telecommunications test equipment: optical power meters (OPM – OLS), OTDR, OSA, Ethernet / IP testers; interpretation of test results
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• High-energy individual with interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate peers, and drive project to completion.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Installation of Network Elements within Cogent Communications locations (Data centers, POPs, Hubs).
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers, carrier neutral datacenters, and multitenant office buildings, document and communicate changes.
• Responsible for maintaining the Cogent fiber network (locates, maintenance, splicing, emergency restoration, transmission equipment maintenance)
• Responsible for maintaining Cogent Data Centers (facility maintenance, compliance, equipment maintenance)
• Management of contractors and vendors.
• Independent and self-starter.
• Work with Network Planning and Customer Service Delivery to provide Field perspective to network deployment as well as to provide expertise in deployments.
• Maintain proficiency within the telecommunications infrastructure, fiber, CWDM and DWDM technologies.
• Work with AC and DC power systems.

Compensation: [Starting / Initial] Base Salary Pay Range: $54,000 - $90,000
