Job summary

Colonial Group is seeking a Construction Tech - Splicer to splice fiber optic and copper cables in outdoor and indoor environments. This role requires reading schematics, maintaining splicing records, and overseeing outside plant work.

Travel up to 50% is common and overtime may be required. Applicants should have 1 year of splicing experience or related trade school cert, the ability to lift 75 pounds, and a valid driver’s license with CDL potential.

Qualifications

• 1 year of copper and/or fiber splicing or trade school cert.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in all weather.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL possible requirement.
• Ability to travel up to 50%+; pass DOT certification.
• Strong time management and accurate paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Splice cables and build splice cases with grounding and sealing.
• Read staking sheets and blueprints; follow instructions.
• Work to industry safety standards and procedures on site.
• Prepare field notes; update drawings as changes occur.
• Support engineering, permits, and construction processes.
• Measure signal strength using test equipment at poles.
• Inspect lines and locate faults; record results.
• Perform routine maintenance and site housekeeping.
• Assist with outside plant construction tasks.
• Take on additional duties as assigned.
