Job summary

State of Washington Dept. of Transportation is seeking a Field Exploration Operations Supervisor to oversee statewide field testing and sampling, supervise field exploration engineers and drill crews, and coordinate scheduling, costs, and training.

The role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a focus on safe, efficient field operations and cost management across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated geotechnical drilling and field exploration leadership experience.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and coordinating multiple field operations and resources.
• Proven supervision skills including directing work and evaluating performance.
• Ability to identify safety risks and ensure compliance with laws, permits, and policies.
• Ability to manage drilling fleet readiness and resolve complex field issues.
• Ability to coordinate training, certification records, and collaboration with partners.
• Strong organization, judgment, and use of MS Office and related systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain drilling schedules based on priorities, staffing, equipment, and permits.
• Assign projects to maximize efficiency while ensuring safe practices.
• Schedule maintenance and location of equipment, order parts as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve drilling and field issues.
• Ensure crews comply with agency policies and safety requirements.
• Review reports for accuracy and track production metrics.
• Prioritize work requests and allocate personnel, vehicles, and equipment.
• Operate state-owned vehicle for delivery of repairs and supplies.
• Manage purchasing and inventory of equipment and tooling; track inspections.
• Maintain crane equipment inspections and certifications.
