Job summary

The City of Antioch is seeking an Equipment Operator in the Public Works Department to operate light and heavy construction equipment for street, water distribution, and wastewater projects. You will perform excavating, grading, trenching, and related tasks, and may serve as crew lead while training others in safe operations.

Applicants must meet education guidelines and hold a valid California driver’s license; a Class A with Tanker/Air Brake endorsements within 12 months is required.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• One year of experience operating and maintaining a variety of complex motorized equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy construction equipment for street, water distribution, and wastewater work.
• Excavate around utilities, lay piping, and backfill with proper compaction.
• Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs; conduct pre-trip inspections.
• Train others in safety and equipment operation; may lead a crew.
• Read drawings/blueprints and maintain basic records and reports.
