Job summary

SCS Engineers is seeking a field technician to support the landfill groundwater and stormwater team in the Fredericksburg, VA or Winchester, VA area. The role involves 90% field work and 10% office time, reporting to a Staff Scientist.

Candidates should have an Associate’s degree in science or geology and be prepared to obtain HAZWOPER training. Responsibilities include data collection, sampling across multiple media, health and safety planning, and routine data entry.

Qualifications

• Completion of (or willingness to complete) a 40‑hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.
• Experience with environmental fieldwork preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record data during field work, including soil characteristics, lithology, groundwater or surface water data, photographs, or logs.
• Collect samples from hazardous and non‑hazardous sites (soil, air, surface water, groundwater, stormwater, landfill gas).
• Tabulate field data for database entry.
• Prepare short‑form site specific health and safety plans.
• Participate in health and safety training.
