Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector to field-inspect construction, environmental and mine reclamation projects, ensuring compliance with permits, plans and regulations. You will assess activities, review documents, and report findings to support safe, environmentally responsible projects across Western PA.

This full-time position offers a standard 7:00 AM–3:00 PM schedule with potential telework from

Qualifications

Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects.
Associate degree in building construction technology, civil engineering technology, survey technology, or construction engineering technology, or equivalent.
Equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants may meet educational requirements within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Responsibilities

Site inspections: drive to project locations and assess construction activities, materials, and conditions.
Contract compliance: review plans, permits, and specifications to verify enforcement.
Material decisions: accept or reject materials and workmanship based on requirements.
Erosion control: inspect erosion and sedimentation devices and ensure corrective actions.
Documentation: compile daily records, prepare reports, and submit estimates using electronic tools.
Complaint investigations: examine mine-related complaints and provide written findings and recommendations.
