Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Fayetteville Regional Office, seeks an Environmental Inspector in Training to perform field inspections and assist with enforcement of mining and reclamation regulations.

The role requires a degree in natural or applied science, engineering, or occupational safety and health, plus strong communication skills. Travel and outdoor work are required; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Degree in natural or applied science, engineering, or occupational safety and health.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical and field inspections to ensure compliance with laws and permit conditions.
• Operate at training inspector level under direct supervision.
• Travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Issue notices of violation and follow up through appropriate proceedings.
• Submit required documentation in a timely manner.
• Participate in helicopter over-flight inspections as required.
