Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Naples seeks an Environmental Specialist I to conduct regulatory inspections in Environmental Public Health (EPH) programs, performing fieldwork under Florida rules and DOH policies.

You will collect data, document findings, participate in hearings, and ensure timely inspections while communicating with the public and partners.

This state role requires immunizations, TB testing, and ability to work outdoors in heat, with emergency duties possible.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• Must lift 50 pounds and work outside in heat and humidity.
• Emergency duty may be required, including shelter operations or disaster response.
• Flexible hours may be required to meet department needs.

Responsibilities

• Conducts field inspections for Environmental Public Health components on a prescribed schedule.
• Responds to nuisance complaints and initiates investigation and inspection procedures.
• Maintains inspection records and enters data into the Environmental Public Health database and local systems.
• Communicates with owners, operators, managers, and the public on disease control and environmental quality.
• Performs related duties including mailing, billing, and file maintenance.
