Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Tallahasse e is seeking an entry-level Environmental Specialist I to support the Environmental Health Program. The role involves inspections, registrations, and education across facilities such as food services, schools, pools, and mobile home parks, under EH Director supervision.

The incumbent will gain experience in regulatory compliance, data analysis, and enforcement actions while working to protect public health in Leon County and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in physical/natural sciences or related field.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Incumbent must become State-certified in Food Hygiene programs during probation.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform inspections and interviews to assess compliance with Florida statutes and codes.
• Interpret regulatory data and document compliance with State, Federal, and local health laws.
• Assist in implementing county programs for compliance, monitoring, and corrective action.
• Learn to evaluate programs for compliance and recommend enforcement actions.
• Provide inspections/permits/consultations for residential facilities, schools, food establishments, pools, and biomedical waste.
• Investigate health-related complaints and respond to inquiries from the public.
