Job summary

Hurt & Proffitt in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a dependable Engineering Technician to support diverse construction materials testing, soils, concrete and asphalt, on site. This field-based role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and reporting, with hands-on training and opportunities for industry certifications.

You will read plans, perform nuclear density gauge testing, observe earthwork and paving, document results, and communicate with project teams.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and valid driver's license.
  • Able to work independently and with a team, documenting field observations.
  • Proficient with basic computer tasks and safety regulations (OSHA).

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and testing requirements.
  • Perform soil density testing using nuclear density gauges per ASTM/VDOT.
  • Test concrete: slump, air content, temperature, and prepare compressive specimens per ASTM/ACI.
  • Conduct asphalt field testing per ASTM/VDOT standards.
  • Collect soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt samples for lab testing.
  • Observe earthwork, foundations, paving, and utility installs for QA.
  • Maintain, calibrate, inspect and operate testing equipment.
  • Prepare electronic field reports and communicate results to PMs, contractors, and clients.
