Job summary

The State of Nevada, in the Department of Transportation, is hiring an Engineering Technician 4 in Las Vegas. The role focuses on field inspections, testing, surveying, and documenting contractor work to ensure compliance with specifications and prompt payment. On-site position with no remote option.

Qualified applicants will have engineering-related education and experience, with opportunities to perform advanced technical duties and lead project activities under general direction.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and two years of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area.
• OR graduation from high school and three years of progressively responsible experience.
• OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service.
• OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers in performing field and laboratory tests and setting up equipment; gather and compile data and analyze it for accuracy.
• Assist engineers, contractors, department staff, and the public regarding water rights, bid documents, plans and specifications; review and prepare information in appropriate format.
• Perform technical research to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and revise procedures as needed.
• Maintain records and contract documents; enter data into computer systems for analysis and review of construction and water rights.
• Conduct surveying work including staking alignments and establishing right-of-way lines; perform measurements and record data.
