Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a Field Engineer – Water/Wastewater in Tampa, FL. The role supports Superintendents, coordinates subcontractors, and assists with start-up activities, RFI management, and field QC to ensure project completion and compliance.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Construction Management with 0–4 years of construction experience and possess Competent Person certifications. Proficiency in surveying and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another relevant field.
• 0–4 years of construction-related experience or equivalent.
• Competent Person certifications in applicable areas (trenching, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, fall protection, OSHA 10‑hour, First Aid & CPR, silica, risk management).
• Knowledge of surveying fundamentals and Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate startup activities and participate in meetings with subs and teams.
• Maintain logs, files, and tracking for field operations and equipment.
• Identify and manage RFIs and submittals to ensure QC and compliance.
• Maintain as‑built drawings and field records; manage material purchasing and storage.
• Create and manage inventory, PPC, and 6‑week schedules; support project closeout.
