Job summary

Ames Construction has been building America for more than 60 years. We are seeking motivated interns to join our heavy civil construction team, gaining hands-on experience on large-scale projects while working with seasoned professionals in the field.

Interns will assist with project coordination, technical reviews, safety monitoring, and communications with owners, design partners, subcontractors, and field crews, developing skills for a long-term construction career.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Pursuing a degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Desire to grow, develop a career, and mentor others.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Instill Safety as a top priority.
• Support a team of construction coworkers.
• Build relationships and communicate with coworkers, owners, design partners, and subcontractors.
• Review and draft technical submittals such as schedules, shop drawings, work plans, etc.
• Monitoring quality control, safety, and environmental programs.
• Understand and assist with project layout.
• Identify critical work items and procure long-lead items.
• Assist with contract administration, including budget and change procedures.
• Assist with material procurement, including logistics.
• Work together to resolve field problems and conflicts with subcontractors, suppliers, and the workforce.
• Maintaining as-built drawings & manuals.
