Job summary

Granite Construction Company is actively seeking interns and entry-level professionals to gain hands-on experience in heavy civil construction at Des Plaines, Illinois. This role supports engineering operations to ensure work aligns with engineering standards and project schedules.

You will review drawings, assist with takeoffs and estimating, prepare reports, and learn safety, cost controls, and material management under experienced mentors and a structured internship program.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED and be working towards a bachelor's degree.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Willingness to learn and work in a team on construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Interpret design/drawings for takeoff and workforce for bidding and building construction projects.
• Prepare and distribute status reports, punch lists, sketches, and material requirement calculations to supervisor.
• Provide technical support regarding project materials meeting specs, delivery dates and schedules.
• Assist with change orders and estimates by preparing drawings and sketches to support estimating and construction work.
• Develop job data including quantity take-offs and material pricing to ensure accurate estimates and bids.
• Maintain records of quantities for work performed and materials installed for cost controls.
