Unknown company seeks a Project/Field Engineer to support a general contractor's project team in the Houston, TX area. The role mixes office tasks (document control, scheduling, cost reporting) with field duties (quality, layout support, daily coordination with the Superintendent) to keep projects on time, on budget, and to spec.

Based in the field, you will gain hands-on experience and have a clear path to a Project Manager or Superintendent role within two to three years.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years construction experience; CM/GC preferred; GC experience a plus.
• Strong communication skills, OSHA 10-Hour certification, basic MEP knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Maintain contract document logs, status reports, RFIs and submittals.
• Write and verify scopes of work for bid packages.
• Issue RFQs and follow up with trade contractors.
• Update schedules using CPM techniques.
• Support field with daily coordination, layout verification, and inspections.
• Document field quality activities and enforce safety/quality standards.
• Prepare change order reports and cost reporting documents.
• Establish and maintain project quality files and documentation.
• Familiarize with contract documents, general conditions, and flow-down requirements.

Job description

We are looking for a Project/Field Engineer to support a general contractor's project team in the Houston, TX area. This role splits time between the office side of the job (document control, scheduling, cost reporting) and the field side (quality, layout support, daily coordination with the Superintendent) to help projects run on time, on budget, and to spec. This role is based in the field, away from the company's home office, but the team makes a point of flying employees in for company events and is known for genuinely taking care of its people. This is a strong opportunity for a self-starter who wants to grow into a Project Manager or Superintendent role over the next two to three years.

What You'll Do

• Maintain contract document logs and status reports on RFIs, submittals, and other project documents
• Write and verify scopes of work for bid packages
• Issue requests for quotations and follow up with trade contractors
• Update project schedules using CPM scheduling techniques
• Support the Superintendent in the field with daily coordination, layout verification, and inspections
• Document field quality activities and help enforce safety and quality standards on site
• Prepare change order reports, estimates, and other cost reporting documents
• Establish and maintain project quality files and documentation systems
• Build familiarity with contract documents, general conditions, and flow-down requirements

What You'll Bring

• BS or MS in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 1-2 years of construction experience with a CM or GC preferred; previous general contractor experience is a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• OSHA 10-Hour Certified
• Basic MEP knowledge
• Understanding of contract documents and specifications
• Knowledge of Procore, Microsoft Office, and Primavera P6 preferred
• Comfortable working in the field and willing to travel for future assignments
• A self-starter mindset, with room to grow into a Project Manager or Superintendent role within two to three years
