Job summary

  • Experience with scheduling, CPM, material controls, estimating, subcontracts, change orders, and documentation control.
  • Ability to coordinate work on-site and understand estimating/material management/scheduling/document control systems.
  • Leadership experience and strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to projects and relocate as needed.
  • Work hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Regular, punctual attendance required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and supervision.
  • Perform quantity calculations and determine percentage of completed materials and work.
  • Develop work plans and work packages.
  • Assist in processing extra work timesheets and JHA preparation.
  • Participate in safety reviews, toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Order and schedule material deliveries.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
  • Support supervision for field operations.
  • Perform material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations.
  • Assist in data gathering for submittals to customers and vendors.
  • Assist in preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, including minor solicitations.
  • Schedule maintenance and updates as directed.
  • Maintain project records including daily reports and RFIs.
  • Enter data into job cost system and review cost reports.
  • Assist in generating change orders and as-built data for PM review.
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.

Job description

The Field Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing project engineering and project control tasks for the successful execution of industrial construction projects with a strong focus on planning, scheduling, budget control, and change management. This position requires close coordination with the construction team, company management, contractors, suppliers, and the owner’s representatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
  • Develop work plans and work packages
  • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming extra work timesheets
  • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  • Order and schedule material deliveries
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
  • Support supervision for field operations
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use
  • Participate in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested
  • Schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others
  • Assist in the maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums
  • Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management
  • Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related field (or minimum of 6 years of related experience/education).
  • Must have an interest in developing skills and experience in hands-on, self-performed construction with more than 2 years of experience in the construction field, preferably in the industrial market.
  • Must have working knowledge and ability to perform operations in scheduling, the critical path method/CPM, material controls, estimating, subcontracts, change order processes, record keeping/documentation control, and jobsite reviews.
  • Must be able to coordinate work on a site and understand estimating systems, material management systems, scheduling tools, and document control systems.
  • Must have experience with leadership and the management of people and strong communication, planning, and organization skills.
  • Must be willing to travel to projects and relocate as needed.
  • Work hours as necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required.
Physical Demands:
  • Perform in an active construction environment.
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen.
  • Frequently lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally life and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Access all points of a construction site in a wide range of work environments.
