Ampirical in Murfreesboro, TN, is seeking a Field Distribution Specialist II to design and support electric distribution projects with a focus on territory work and new line extensions. The role involves field data collection, creating layouts, and coordinating with field crews to ensure safety and compliance.

Travel is mainly within the state. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in electric distribution design, strong drafting skills, and a safety-focused mindset.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering technology, drafting/design, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.
• 2+ years of experience in electric distribution design or related utility work.
• Proficiency in design/drafting software, GIS, or related tools.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to perform field work in varying conditions.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Strong technical foundation with a desire to grow into advanced distribution design.
• Detail-oriented and thorough in both field data collection and design documentation.
• Collaborative mindset with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform field assessments and collect data for territory work, new line extensions, and re-insulation projects.
• Design and draft distribution layouts, ensuring compliance with company standards, engineering specifications, and safety regulations.
• Prepare detailed construction packages including drawings, material lists, and supporting documentation.
• Assist with individual pole replacement designs as needed.
• Support senior designers and engineers on reconductor and tie-line projects to gain exposure to higher-complexity designs.
• Coordinate with internal teams and field crews to clarify design intent and resolve construction issues.
• Ensure all work adheres to safety policies, NESC standards, and applicable regulations.
• Design and submit required permits for the Department of Transportation, railroad companies, county roads, transmission line encroachments, etc., as needed for your assigned jobs.
• Maintain accurate records and update design systems with project and field data.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to team efficiency initiatives.
