Job summary

Fundamental is seeking a Forward deployed Data Scientist to drive adoption of NEXUS and collaborate with customers on complex technical challenges. You’ll work within the FDE team to deploy solutions securely in client environments—from proof of value to post-implementation—while translating field insights into the product roadmap.

You’ll manage multi-stakeholder relationships (IT, C-suite, data science) and help align technical work with business value, enabling ROI and scalable deployment

Qualifications

• PhD or Master in CS/Math/Stats or equivalent deep statistical literacy.
• 2+ years as a technical IC (data scientist or software engineer).
• Experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration, and writing performant APIs (FastAPI/Flask).
• Master end-to-end ML pipeline: framing, pre-processing, ML algorithm, validation strategies.
• Strong data handling (PySpark, Pandas) and memory optimization.
• Demonstrated experience optimizing models for a specific business problem.
• Strong communication skills translating architectural nuances into clear business value.

Responsibilities

• Deploy production use cases with measurable business ROI.
• Benchmark against client baselines (XGBoost, LightGBM) and perform data engineering tasks.
• Collaborate with research and product teams to feed the roadmap from field insights.
• Identify business problems, prevent data leakage, and manage last-mile integration (VPC/on-prem/air-gapped).
• Explain model predictions to business users in collaboration with Sales and Solution Architect teams.
