Job summary

Semex seeks a Field Data Coordinator to fortify field data initiatives within the Research and Innovation team. You will drive data quality, recruitment, and partnerships with producers and data providers to enhance data coverage and timeliness.

Responsibilities include developing an annual data acquisition plan, analyzing field data for actionable insights, and supporting cloud dashboards. This hybrid role is based in Madison, WI or Guelph, with US/Canada travel.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in animal science, agriculture, dairy science, agribusiness, data analytics, data management, or related field.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills with ability to coordinate multiple herds, contacts, activities, and timelines.
  • Strong understanding of field data with ability to analyze and interpret results using farm records, spreadsheets, databases, reporting systems, and data-quality processes.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for producers, field contacts, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Practical problem-solving to identify issues, coordinate solutions, and escalate risks when needed.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, collaborative, and adaptable with sound judgment when handling confidential data.
  • Strong understanding of field data and the ability to analyze and interpret it.
  • Practical knowledge of farm and reproductive records, data management, and partner-herd coordination.
  • Knowledge of dairy reproduction, fertility management, and herd-recording systems.
  • Experience working with dairy producers, agricultural field operations, commercial breeding programs, or industry data providers.
  • Experience with Excel, Power BI, cloud-based data environments, dashboards, databases, or data-quality reporting.
  • Experience with large or complex datasets; familiarity with SQL, R, Python or other analytic tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner herds that align with Semex field data priorities.
  • Coordinate herd recruitment, onboarding, participation, timelines, and follow-up with producers, field teams, and data providers.
  • Monitor incoming field and reproductive data for quality, continuity, and timeliness.
  • Identify missing, delayed, or inconsistent records and coordinate practical resolution with herd, field, and technical contacts.
  • Maintain herd records, contact history, participation status, data-source information, breeding volumes, quality indicators, targets, and outstanding actions.
  • Develop and maintain an annual field data acquisition plan identifying data gaps and priorities.
  • Support the addition of new herds, herd-management platforms, and data sources.
  • Analyze field data, identify trends, gaps, and emerging issues, and translate findings into practical insights for internal teams and field partners.
  • Support cloud-based tracking, reporting, and dashboard tools providing access to descriptive statistics and key data metrics.
  • Lead improvements to herd engagement, data collection, data flow, analysis, and reporting processes.

About the Role

We are currently looking for a Field Data Coordinator to fill a newly created role, and join our Research and Innovation team. The Field Data Coordinator will serve as a key point for Semex field data initiatives, helping drive actions and follow-through across farm data access, data quality, analysis, and reporting. The job holder will work closely with R&I, Analytics, Operations, and other internal stakeholders, as well as field contacts, producers, herd managers, and external data providers, to improve the volume, quality, continuity, and timeliness of field data, interpret results, and translate findings into practical insights that support operational decision‑making.

What You Will Do:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner herds that align with Semex field data priorities and identify opportunities to expand data coverage.
  • Coordinate herd recruitment, onboarding, participation, timelines, and follow‑up with producers, field teams, and data providers.

What You Need to Succeed:

This is a hybrid role, with flexibility to be based out of our Guelph, Ontario or Madison, Wisconsin office. This position offers a minimum starting salary of $75,000, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications. The level, title, and scope of the position may be adjusted to reflect the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications, ranging from an early‑career opportunity to a more senior role. Reporting arrangements will be confirmed based on organizational needs and the successful candidate’s experience.

Please note that regular travel throughout the United States and Canada is required. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain all necessary travel documentation, including a valid passport and any required visas or travel authorizations.
