Job summary

Dematic is seeking a Controls Technician to travel to customer sites to perform audits of electrical and control systems as part of a dynamic engineering team. You will review legacy and distributed control architectures and assist in planning installations and demolitions with installation leads.

You will collaborate with project engineers, document findings, and support commissioning activities on brownfield projects, ensuring proper configurations and reliable operation.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.
• 3-5 years of related field experience.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites (~80%).
• Experience with brownfield projects at customer sites.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC based control systems.
• Experience with Asi Controls Tools and ASIMON.
• Strong customer facing communication skills.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and controls documentation.
• Knowledge of centralized and distributed controls architectures.
• Working knowledge of industrial fieldbus networks (Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet, CAN, Hirschmann Hi-vision).
• Knowledge of safety systems and standards (NFPA79, UL).

Responsibilities

• Audits: Perform comprehensive electrical and control system audits at customer sites.
• Assess and document Legacy (point-to-point) and distributed controls architectures.
• Evaluate controls power distribution systems.
• Verify proper configurations and performance of Ethernet-based industrial networks.
• Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or risks in existing controls equipment relative to the defined scope.
• Collaborate with internal project engineering teams to align audit results with project scopes.
• Interface directly with customers to clarify requirements and support follow-up actions.
• Prepare clear, detailed technical documentation and audit reports.
• Commissioning Support: Support commissioning on active brownfield projects, demolition and pre-commissioning activities.
• Seek guidance from controls project engineering leads on non-routine areas.
• Identify problems and take corrective actions; provide regular status updates to leadership.
• Support on-site reliability, performance testing, system start-up, Go-Live, and post Go-Live support.
