Job summary

GrayMatter is seeking a Field Controls Engineer to own on-site control systems work nationwide. You will commission, troubleshoot, and support industrial automation with Rockwell PLCs, read schematics, and coordinate with OEMs and customers.

Ideal candidates have a strong engineering background, hands-on startup experience, and are comfortable traveling extensively to customer sites while maintaining a professional, service-oriented approach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Rockwell PLC experience is required.
• Hands-on commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting industrial automation systems.
• Experience with PLC programming (Rockwell preferred; Siemens/others a plus).
• Ability to read electrical schematics, panel layouts, network diagrams and control documentation.
• Excellent communication skills and customer-focused approach.
• Willingness to travel 80–100% to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Commission, start up, and troubleshoot industrial control systems at customer sites.
• Assist with PLC and HMI programming modifications.
• Support FAT, SAT, system integration, and production ramp-up activities.
• Coordinate with customers, OEMs, electricians, and remote engineering teams to resolve issues.
• Document commissioning activities and communicate project status to stakeholders.
• Provide operator and maintenance training during startup.
• Travel 80–100% of the time.
