Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager to support safety program development on active construction sites. You will assist with SHMS, site inspections, PPE oversight and incident investigations while reporting to the Senior Safety Manager and Safety Manager.

Ideal candidates have OSHA 510 or STSC, 2+ years in safety, bilingual English/Spanish preferred, and a valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to multiple job sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in a safety-related role, preferably in underground utility construction.
• OSHA 510 or STSC certification.
• Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
• Familiar with OSHA, DOT, and safety practices for excavation and traffic control.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver's license; travel to multiple job sites.
• Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and monitoring the SHMS.
• Conduct site inspections and safety audits for hazards.
• Help facilitate JHAs, Pre-Task Plans, and Tailgate meetings.
• Monitor PPE usage and ensure crew compliance.
• Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, and training logs.
• Provide field support during high-risk activities like excavation and confined spaces.
• Promote a positive safety culture with field staff.
